As we enter week six of the college football season, teams are beginning to separate themselves from the contenders for the playoff and the pretenders. This week there is a big SEC clash down south between two undefeated powerhouses as Auburn travels to the swamp to play Florida. The winner's playoff hopes will remain alive, with the loser likely needing a miracle to make it to the final four teams at the end of the college football season.
(10/5) 7 Auburn @ 10 Florida (+2.5) 3:30 PM CBS
Key Players:
Auburn: QB Box Nix, RB JaTarvious Whitlow, WR Seth Williams
Florida: QB Kyle Trask, RB Lamical Perine, WR Van Jefferson
Key Stats:
Auburn: 38.0 points per game, 251.0 rushing yards per game, 225.0 passing yards allowed per game
Florida: 8.8 points allowed per game, 288.2 passing yards per game, 86.8 rushing yards allowed per game
Preview: This game is going to come down to defense. In a matchup between two SEC foes who both have elite defensive fronts, it will be interesting to see which offense can get clicking first. Florida QB Kyle Frask has played more of a game manager role since taking over at QB, and he hasn't faced a pass rush like Auburn's yet.
Auburn averages an astounding 251.0 rushing yards per game, and has a dynamic dual threat QB in Bo Nix who can extend plays and get first downs with his legs as well. The Tigers have looked legit and have answered every challenge they have faced so far this year. Florida on the other hand has played a softer schedule and goes against by far the best team they have played so far this season.
Despite being at home, this is a big challenge for Florida who will have their hands full trying to take down Auburn. Auburn has looked every bit of a national title contender this season and will take control in the second half against the Gators and have a double digit victory further cementing their chances for an undefeated season.
